Party Cuz It's My Birthday

Can someone send a memo to my boss about this being my Birthday WEEK and all? He actually wants me to do work. Lots of it. Whatever. I guess I'll humor him today, but I will NOT be productive tomorrow. I'm thinking about coming in late, taking a 3 hour lunch & leaving early. Good, plan huh?

While procrastinating, I've been thinking about all the awesome birthday parties I've had over years. Some of my most memorable were-
50's sock hop- 10th birthday
New Kids On The Block Party- 8th birthday
Strawberry Shortcake Party- 1st Birthday
Thanks, Mom. You rock (for having me and for throwing killer parties)!

I had a Bachelorette/Birthday Party in New Orleans for my 23rd thanks to Keke and several of my other friends. It was almost more fun than I could handle. Almost.

So far, Little Red has had:
Cowboy Party- 1st Birthday
Elmo Party- 2nd Birthday
This year will most likely be a "Wocket" Party- (that would be rocket, of course) LR is more than obsessed with outer space.

I love planning parties and all things Birthday (obviously)! I'm always looking for good ideas. What are your most memorable Birthday celebrations?

I am super excited about sharing all of my favorite things with y'all tomorrow. I promise, you won't want to miss it!

PARTY ON!

In Full Swing

The weekend was a total success. I am having the best birthday week evah (so far)! We fondued and celebrated Saturday night with our amazing friends. I got some awesome stuff. These Volatile wedges are hotter than hot! Thanks to my lovely in laws.

Keke hooked a sista up with this J. Crew tee, sassy Swarovski bunny key fob & a couple of bottles of 2 Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's.

Can you say BLING BLING?

BTW my last name starts with H and is another word for rabbit. What a perfectly sassy gift!

Mr. Sass, Little Red and I had a fabulous day yesterday. We lounged and napped and watched movies. Have you seen Nim's Island? LOVED it. LR & Mr. Sass loved it, too. The scenery and animals were fantastic and Gerard Butler is the PERFECT eye candy. What a great family movie. We also watched Get Smart and Daddy Day Camp.

My Favorite Things Giveaway will start on April Fools Day (the day of my actual birth). Stay tuned!

Friday My Way

"Week Of Me" has officially started! It's Friday and I am in the mood to laugh!
What's better than man jokes?

Q. What did the elephant say to the naked man?
A. How on earth do you manage to breath through THAT?!!

How is Colonel Sanders like the typical male?
All he's concerned with is legs, breasts, and thighs.

What should you give a man who has everything?
A woman to show him how to work it.

I don't care who you are, that's funny (unless you are a man).

A good one from my bestie, Keke~

What did the fish say when he hit a brick wall?

"Oh' dam."

And my personal favorite-
You are on the bus when you suddenly realize ... you need to pass gas. The music is really loud, so you time your gas with the beat. After a couple of songs, you start to feel better as you approach your stop. As you are leaving the bus, people are really staring you down, and that's when you realize, you have been listening to your ipod.

Bwahahahaha!

Gotta have some Little Red humor~

We were driving along yesterday when Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" came on the radio. Little Red got really excited and proclaimed, "Mommy, dat is MY song!" Seriously, does "his" song have to be about drinkin' whiskey outta the bottle and makin' love by the lake? Don't get me wrong, that sounds like a blast to me, but for my almost 3 year old, notsomuch.

_____________________________________________

Tonight my bestie, Keke, will arrive to help me celebrate. I'm beyond excited! Tomorrow will be jam packed with shopping fun. Looks like the rain will move out in time for my pedicured piggies to make their debut for dinner at The Melting Pot!

Fondue + Friends + Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka = FUN FO SHO
See ya Monday!

Go on over and pick your font and color and leave her a comment.
Good luck!

You're The Inspiration

Ya'll have totally motivated me with the rockin' pictures of your homes. Considering that my house is still in shambles and there are plenty of boxes yet to even be unpacked, I totally needed that kick in the pants. Here are some pictures that take my breath away...

Rain, Rain Go Away

and come back after my birthday

It is raining like crazy here. There are wrecks all over the place, which can be chalked up to folks forgetting how to drive at the first sign of a rain drop. Totally typical. Flooding and severe weather are expected with this 6+ inches of rain coming our way over the next 4 days. Hopefully the weather will clear up just in time for dinner Saturday night. I'm going to be a not so happy camper if I am unable to wear open toed shoes- to show off my freshly pedicured tootsies, of course.

Party Like It's My Birthday

My birthday is quickly approaching (a little too quickly). Here at the Sass House we observe a week long celebration. I am embracing the big 2-8 with total excitement in an effort to keep from feeling old.

Festivities will kick off Friday night when Keke and Bush roll into town. Saturday will be awesome complete with girl time, garage sale hopping, bathing suit shopping & pedicures followed by fondue at the Melting Pot with 13 of my best buds. Dinner with other friends and some of my family is scheduled for Wednesday(my actual birthday- yep, I'm an April Fool) night. A total family celebration will occur at some point during the following weekend. We are also rejoining society and having our cable installed on Sunday as part of the celebration, which I couldn't be happier about. I also have some exciting things planned here including a post of my favorite things (Oprah style of course- complete with a giveaway). Stay tuned for "A Week of Me"- hey, it's my party and I can do whatever I want...

By the way, if any one talks to Mr. Sass, I must have a Wii. Not so subtle hints have been dropped, but I don't want there to be any confusion. Thanks!

In The Auto Zone

Hi, y'all! Yep, that's me today, all gussied up for another fun filled day of work. My dress is cute, don't ya think? I bought it last year for less than $30 at TJ Maxx. I looked all over the Internet for a picture, so I wouldn't have to take one. That was a no go, so here I am.

After I got dressed this morning, Little Red and I had this convo-

LR: Mommy, I wuv your dress!

Me: Aw, thanks buddy. I like it, too.

LR: Yep, I wuv it cause it has tires on it.

Me: You are such a boy.

He likes my dress because it has auto parts on it? Seriously, how can he even be my kid? Wonder if this dress will have a similar effect on Mr. Sass... The man does love tires.

LR: Don't say maybe. Say yes.

He's a bossy little thang. Luckily I had a treat stashed away for him. I can't imagine how much trouble I'd have been in otherwise.

I MIGHT Be Old As Dirt

I MIGHT have gotten an invitation to my 10 year high school reunion yesterday.

I MIGHT have graduated from a high school that has been made famous by MTV.

There MIGHT have been 644 peeps in my graduating class.

I MIGHT know about 50 of them.

I MIGHT actually go to the reunion.

I MIGHT have a birthday right around the corner, that will no longer allow me to say I am in my mid twenties.

My body MIGHT be aching from all the manual labor I have been doing.

I MIGHT be feeling rather old today.

This is all hypothetical, of course.

Sam I Am

Last night, we went to Sam's to stock up on some goods and to eat dinner with Mr. Sass. That's how we roll. You just can't beat their pizza combo dealio. On the way I was getting Little Red all excited. Our convo went something like this:

Me: Guess where we are going...

LR: Where?

Me: We are going to Sam's to shop & eat! It will be sooooo fun.

LR: Oh, ok.

Me: Are you excited?(trying to pump him up)

LR: Yep, Sam is my fwiend.

So, the buggies at Sam's have spots for 2 kiddos to sit. Who is brave enough to take 2 kids to Sam's? Not me. Little Red insisted upon sitting on the right side. He proceeded to tell us that his fwiend Sam was going to sit in the other spot.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that Sam's was a place and not a person. He looked for his "fwiend" all over the store. He finally decided that Sam must not have been there. He made me promise that we would go back again. Am I a bad mom for not telling him that his "fwiend" Sam doesn't really exist and for using it to my advantage? He hasn't been that good while shopping, well ever.

Does anyone have a kid named Sam that I can borrow?

Flood Zone

On a positive note, we are almost totally moved! One more load tonight should do it. On the other hand, we were up way too late unloading and sopping up the wet mess that was our basement and ALL of our stuff. Yep, the hot water heater sprung a leak that caused a little- ok a lot -of standing water in our new basement. Mr. Sass fixed the problem. I do so love watching him work...

I got the honor of mopping up the water to save our stuff. It was back breaking work and after about 15 minutes I was dog tired and ready to quit. After 30 minutes I wanted to cry. At one hour I started pretending that I was on Big Brother or Survivor or some other ridiculous reality show (that I love) and that if I filled the bucket fast enough I'd win a million buckaroos. 2 hours later I had sure 'nuff filled the bucket and saved all of our possessions, but I'm still waiting on that check. Best workout I've had in a while, though and Mr. Sass was seriously impressed since manual labor just isn't my thang. I can feel it in my back and my shoulders and my neck and my legs and my arms and my hands and my feet and my hair. No worries though, my purses and shoes are safe!

Think Pink

Little Red has recently (like yesterday) decided that pink is for girls. Who taught him this? My money is on Mr. Sass, but he's not 'fessin up. Keep in mind, I've never dressed him in pink or anything, but he has never had a problem with pink candy or food or lip gloss or nail polish. I'm just saying.

Last night when I presented his fab dinner of a hot dog and chips- don't judge me we are trying to get moved here- he said, with a totally disgusted look on his face, "Mommy I can not eat dat. I jest don't wike pink." Little Red, say what? I asked why and he responded with, "Pink is jest for gulls." I was taken aback and totally unprepared. I looked at him like he was crazy and then proceeded to roll the dog in ketchup. He promptly gobbled it up. Problem solved. Until he asked for juice. All I had was cran-apple. He picked milk instead. Score! Looks like I really am the pink in a house of blue. LR becomes more boyish every day.

Note to self:
To keep Little Red out of my stuff, all I have to do is buy it in pink or put it in a pink box or put a pink sticker on it. This will totally be used to my advantage. I see lots of pink stuff in my future.

Honey Do This List

We have tons of stuff to do at the new-old house. I am super excited about it. I have started working on a list for Mr. Sass. I plan to document our work here, plus I'm going to need some pointers and ideas-

  1. Paint kitchen cabinets

  2. Paint bedroom (or not)

  3. MAJOR landscaping- we will have to hire someone to do this

  4. Tile bathroom counters

  5. Tile kitchen counters

  6. Replace living room ceiling fan

  7. Build new deck

  8. Build shop

  9. Hardwood floors in kitchen & living room

  10. New bathroom sink hardware

  11. New door knobs throughout house

  12. Paint exterior & trim

  13. Finish basement room

Lofty goals, no? I really need to find some pictures of kitchens that I like as we will be painting cabinets this weekend. I can't decide between black & white. Our walls are latte from Sherwin Williams and the hardware is polished silver. Pointers and ideas are welcome. I will get some before pictures ASAP. We will be putting hardwood on the floors and tiling the counter tops. Eventually.

The guest room aka Lil Miss Sassypant's bedroom is a BRIGHT lilacish purple. The room was done in hot pink & black at the other house, which I loved with all my heart. I(Mr.Sass) either have to paint the bedroom or change the motif. I'm kinda liking this purple, black & white room. I'll just tell ya. it's really growing on me. What do you think? Our furniture is white. I'm pretty sure Mr. Sass would be stoked to mark this off the list without having to do it.

From Pottery Barn...The walls are almost exactly this color.

Over the weekend we changed out all the cabinet hardware in the bathrooms and kitchen, replaced vents throughout, changed out door knobs & deadbolts on the front, back and garage door, replaced the closet organizers and racks & pulled hideous trim off the top of the kitchen cabinets. I use the term "we" loosely since mostly I just watched Mr. Sass. I could have helped, but why would I want to slow him down? The man is handy to have around. I should be shot for not utilizing his mad skillz more often. My dad says there is nothing Mr. Sass can't fix. Dad, on the other hand, notsomuch the handyman type- Probably the understatement of the century.

We Like To Move It, Move it!

My back is aching and my legs are weak. I am exhausted from the weekend of moving, people, BUT, we are almost done. Mr. Sass hired a couple of helpers that moved everything muy rapido, plus they worked for lunch, beer and just a little cash. All I could say was gracias. Their quickness in addition to the language barrier caused several things to get moved that weren't quite ready, but what the hey... Now everything is stacked up in our basement ready for us to unpack. I am hoping to do it a little at a time and am NOT going to let myself get overwhelmed, plus I have vowed to stay organized. We have the rest of our lives to get it like we want it.

I had wonderful help with Little Red. My big lil sis, Molly, took him for a day of fun Saturday and kept him out of the way for his safety and our sanity. On Sunday, when I took him to the new-old house, he looked around the basement and said, "Mommy, we need to cwean up!" Thanks for the moral support, buddy.

I rocked it in multiple school pics!

Weekend Warriors

We are moving this weekend. Again. I am half excited and half dreading it. I just want to wiggle my nose and everything be done. To add to it the weather is less than perfect. It is supposed to rain all daggum weekend. Mr. Sass has been at the new-old house updating fixtures and sprucing things up all week. We lived in this house for several years before moving into a rental property while the house was on the market. We had big plans of selling and buying land to build our dream house. The real estate market went south along with those big plans. So, we refinanced and are moving our happy little tails back in with a much lower house payment and some money to make some improvements and updates. I just never imagined we'd be moving back in.

Sigh. It really is for the best. With the current state of the economy and the unknown of the future, this will be great for us financially. The house is on the smallish side, but we are planning an addition, a new deck & a shop out back, plus there will be much less house to clean (totally the best part). I'm trying to stay positive here people. I'll keep you updated on our progress!

ABSolutely Beachin'

The fam is going to San Juan in May. I am pumped to say the least! Oh how I love vacations, hoteling it and the beach. What I do NOT love are my abs (or lack there of). I have lost 40 ish pounds (More on that here) over the past 2 years and am ready to do some serious bikini shopping, but my mid section needs some toning. I need advice. I need a workout that will give me the same results as a tummy tuck in about 80 days (without the swelling and bruising of course). Keep in mind that I have 2 lil sisters that are 18 and 20. They have never carried a child for 9 months nor have they ever had a c-section. These are the peeps I'll be hanging with. Depressing, huh? I'm willing and ready to order whatever DVD I need, but I don't want to waste money on things that don't work. Help me, Pu-leeze!

Wish Upon A Full Night's Sleep

So, Mr. Sass and Little Red were both in bed at 8:00 last night. Yes, you are reading correctly- eight oh-clock! I can only assume this was due to total exhaustion from lack of sleep for both of 'em. There I am being all happy and productive- folding laundry, packing boxes, watching a little tv- multitasking to the max, when I hear LR's cries around 10:00. I go in, rub his back, give him water and lay down with him and he's back asleep in no time. Ahhhhh- back to what I was doing. What was it I was doing again? Anywho, this happened 5 stinkin' times over the course of the night. Once more while I was still up and three more after I went to sleep. Agggghhhhhh- if there is anything I hate more than a 10 pm bed time, it's not getting my beauty rest. I'll take a 10 pm bed time any day over a sleepless night of ups and downs.

Thanks for the advice, girlies! Unfortunately, I can't take his nap away since he is at daycare, plus I really don't think that is the issue. He is very obviously tired in the evenings, he just fights like the dickens to stay awake. He sings, tickles, talks and cries all the while fighting to keep his little baby blues open...

Guess we shall see what tonight brings. And be careful what you wish for!

Bedtime Story

It's a vicious cycle...

Lately, Little Red REFUSES to go to bed before 10 pm, therefore he is a cranky crab come morning time. I have tried everything from sweetness & bribes to my serious face, complete with time outs, CIO and, yes a few leg swats-don't you judge me. This kid is way too stubborn for his own good. Nothing works. He fights me until Mr. Sass (who has been working very looooooong hours) gets home and we turn every light in the house off and all lay down together. Even the dogs must be in their beds. I have to spend 20 minutes pretending to sleep while fighting with all my might to stay awake so that I can finish dishes, laundry and various other equally exciting tasks.

Then, when it's time to wake up he REFUSES to get up and the entire morning is a nightmare. He fights getting dressed, brushing his teeth and just wants me to hold him. I spend the entire morning rushing him while trying to get myself ready. This is not fun a' tall and I know he needs more sleep, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to get him to bed earlier. Am I so entertaining that he wants to stay up with me and not miss anything? Doubtful. I mean folding towels and unloading the dishwasher are super glam, but seriously he isn't gonna miss anything.

How do all of you 7pm bed timers do it? Even 8pm would be loverly. Do I need Super Nanny or an intervention or what?

Sistas In My Hood

My girl, Impulsive Addict, has bestowed the Sisterhhood Award upon me. So cool in my world of boys! Now, I am s'posed to hand it over to those that show Attitude or Gratitude on their blogs. This is no problemo! I'm choosing several girlies that are friends of mine IRL:

KeKe- my bestie that I simply couldn't live without. I'm her favorite hoe after all!
Deidre- my sweet as pie cousin in law that has the cutest lil girlie with a baby boy on the way.
Brooke- she just gave birth to twins and has 3 under 3. Girl is Super Woman!
Anna- an old friend of mine that I have recently found in blog world. So glad our paths have crossed again!

I'm so blessed to know all of you. You have inspired me in different ways and I'm a better person because of you. Thanks, sistas!

I'm Stuck On Band-Aid

It appears that I need to purchase stock in Band-Aids. Little Red has just discovered that they cure all ailments. All of a sudden my tough lil cookie is a whining mama's boy. Every bump, scratch and bruise needs a band aid and a kiss. Even pizza sauce spots feel better after being bandaged, duh! Last night he had a total of 17 boo-boos. We put band aids on every last one of them- mostly cuz I'm a sucker and I hate listening to him cry. Call me weak if you want, but the cuteness is killer. I even had to cut some jumbo size ones into smaller pieces when we ran out of regular size. After a while he would tear off the band aid and proclaim, "Aw Bettah!" So stinkin cute.

LR only actually has one injury that is for real. It was a garbage can incident that resulted in much crying and a little blood. Yesterday, he told his teacher that it was hurting so bad he was afraid it would fall off if he didn't get a band aid. She got him one stat and laughed hysterically as she told me the tale- it appears she is a sucker for the cute factor, too. He is only a tad dramatic. I just don't know where he gets it.

Lord help us if he discovers band aids with characters...I'm just thankful that I can cure his ailments with a box(or 2) of band aids and some lovin'. I dread the day that I can't make it all better with a kiss and a band aid.

Working On My Business

I have alot to say and only a little time to say it...

First off, the weather is just perfect. I could spend all day sitting outside soaking up the rays, however my boss has other plans.

I was a busy lil bee all weekend. We hauled many loads of goods to the Goodwill and cleaned out multiple garages. We are moving back into a house we have had on the market (for way too long) over the next few weeks, so looks like I better get used to the busy-ness.

Little Red pooped on the potty last night. This was not me putting him on the potty half way through his business. Nope, this was him telling me he needed to go and him sitting there til he was all done. We read 4, yes f-o-u-r Jeep magazines while he was working it out. We have had lots of tummy issues, so I haven't pushed him into it, but he has been pee-peeing in the potty regularly since he started school.

The dragging economy has now impacted my company and apparently the boss man thinks I can just pick up the slack of those laid off while continuing my regular job. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have a job and I am quite capable, but I do have limits. I work well under pressure, but not in a pressure cooker. We'll see how long it takes me to go nuts.

On the bright side, I will be so busy with moving, work & LR's pottying I won't have time to get back in the nasty funk I was in last week, however the blogworthiness of my material may suffer. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

I have been awarded again! I will be passing it along when I get a second to breathe.

J is for...

The Alphabet Game

I love games! This one has quite the Sesame Street feel to it. Impulsive Addict gave me the letter J. I have to compile a list of 10 things that I love that begin with the letter J.

This was harder than I thought!

1. Julie- That would be my amazing mama (aka GiGi). She is one fine lady.

2. J. Crew- That store is so full of cuteness!

3. Jasons- I have about 13 guy friends named Jason. They all go by nicknames/ last names so as not to confuse us too much. However, at my wedding they all introduced themselves as "Just Jason". My grandmothers were slightly confused.

4. Jessica Simpson- The person & the label. Curves and all girl is hawt combined with just the right amount of dumb blonde, plus she makes great shoes! Have you seen Private Valentine? Don't be hatin.

5. Jeep Riding- Duh!

6. Johnny Knoxville- Love him and all his hotness!

7. Jerry Maguire- One of my favorite movies of all time. He had me at hello.

8. Juicy Couture Perfume- I wear it every day. I always get compliments on how yummy I smell.

9. Jammies- I love nothing more than putting on my comfy duds when I get home. We call our comfy clothes jammies or jammers at the Sass house.

10. Juiced Berry Lipgloss- From the VS Beauty Rush Line. Can't leave home without it!

If you want a letter, leave a comment. I'll go easy on you. Maybe.

Sassy Hoe

My BFF KeKe is the bestest friend a girl could evah have. Seriously you'd be lucky to have her, but don't go trying to steal her from me. It. Will. Not. Happen.

She posted the following on her blog, Hoemade With Love today (proof that she totally deserves the Kreativ Award and that she's a rockin' friend)...

My Favorite Hoe...

by KeKe

She rarely flies off the handle,
and smells like a lovely candle.

Smart, head strong and wise,
she is pretty and the perfect size.

She stands by me year in and year out,
allowing me to laugh, cry and sometimes pout.

She is great at playing in the dirt,
but she also knows how to wear a skirt.

We know each others passions and strengths,
and will back each other up, no matter the length.

Children, parents, work and spouses,
we will both survive bad luck with stupid houses.

My Sassy Hoe is unique and one of a kind,
I love her dearly because she keeps me from loosing my mind.

Winning Is The Best Therapy

Here's the dealio~ AnniBannanie gave me this award and though I'm not feelin all too kreativ at the moment, I'm most appreciative. I now have to tell you 7 things I heart:

1. Diet Dr. Pepper
2. The Beach -this is most certainly a proper noun
3. Hoteling it
4. My monogram on anything & everything
5. Shopping for bargains
6. Spending time with my 2 best men
7. Crimson Tide Football- Roooooooooooll Tide!

Please note that this list is in no particular order. I may or may not like Diet Dr. Pepper more than anything else in the world.

So, now I HAVE to pass this along. I'm trying not to repeat anyone one...Here goes-

April- cuz I lurve her style
Misadventeruous Mommy- cuz she can be kreativ on 3 blogs at once
Renee- cuz her blog is super cute and she's so daggum domestic
KeKe- for quality, not quantity
Monogramchick- her cute stuff speaks for itself
Babiesandbargains- she manages to post great info even when she feels like death
Pioneerwoman- cuz her blog just plain rocks

Techneck

Just wanted to see if I could post from my blackjack. You know, in case I ever have something super important to tell ya.

I'm feeling much better. Thanks for all the love. At the moment I'm kicked back watching Beverly Hills Chiuaua, which could also explain my need for alternate entertainment. Yep its almost 10 oclock and Little Red is still up. Dont waste your time judging me, I'm all outta concern for today. He's fading fast though. Or maybe that's just me...

Uggggghhhhhhh!

Just wanted to let yall know I'm struggling a bit, but hope to be back to my good ole prepneck self very soon. Mother Nature didn't allow for much jeep riding this weekend, to Mr. Sass's dismay, which has put him in a foul mood.

Mother Nature also struck at work when lightning hit and fried 3 computers (one was mine) and the phone system. As the Marketing Manager, IT guru, Saleswoman and Office Manager (I wear a few different hats 'round here) I have been putting out fires all week.

We also got snow, which melted by the time the sun went down. What good is snow if you don't get a day off work? Other than a background for cute pictures, of course.

In addition I'm just plain down in the dumps. Don't know why. Don't know how to snap out of it. Everything and everyone is annoying the tar out of me. Even I don't like me very much right now.

These make me smile, though!

On a happier note, my friend Anniebannie has given me a super sweet award. I'll be passing it on very soon. Stay tuned!
